If life was that simple! A large number of developers, architects and other professionals are convinced that they have a grip on APIs, but when asked they often struggle trying to answer “what is an API?” It seems like a fairly easy question, right? If your answer is “REST”, you might be in for quite a shock. And that’s ok, because given the flood of AI generated content and infographics oversimplifying the matter it’s hard to find a good source of knowledge!
The question then is:
What are the factors composing an API?
What is the definition?
What is there beyond the API spec and implementation?
All of this and more in this episode of Loosely Coupled! Our guest this time around will be Einar Høst, Software Developer with a knack for finding patterns beyond the technical aspects of interoperability. We’ll walk through various aspects of API lifecycle and all the related patterns that are not necessarily technical, but heavily influence how an API is designed, implemented and how it operates in production!

So hopefully everybody's staying hydrated, and today we have a very, very, very special episode because exactly one year ago, exactly one year ago, we aired our first episode of Loosely Coupled with Fran Mendes, and we were talking about the adoption of even-driven architectures, so Loosely Coupled is one year old, and today, we're continuing on an integration topic.

Today, we're talking about sociotechnical API patterns and all the sociotechnical aspects that we commonly overlook when working with APIs, and joining me today in the studio is somebody who made me really chuckle two weeks ago at the conference.
