Key Information
- Bridging the Gap (BtG) is an open source educational initiative focused on IT systems integration architecture and related topics.
- Bridging the Gap is the Data Controller of the information we collected about you, unless otherwise specified for selected educational events conducted jointly with other entities. For these joint events you will be asked to explicitly agree to share your data with other involved entities, no data will be shared by default.
- We collect the Personal Data set out in the detailed information section below.
- We use data for the purpose of informing on new educational events or available materials and for issuing credentials (badges). We may also use this for sending offerings, suggestions, and surveys related to Bridging the Gap content and events.
- You have a number of rights related to your data, as listed in the detailed section below.
- As a general reference, data processing rules comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) ((EU) 2016/679). All claims are considered under jurisdiction of The Netherlands.
What Data We Get and how we use it
We collect certain data from you directly, like information you enter yourself, and data from third-party platforms you use to subscribe to BtG events or newsletters.

In order to mitigate personal data related risks, data collected and stored by BtG is limited to the minimum required for providing services, and no sensitive data (related to gender, religion, health, age, political preferences, or in general to any other non IT-software-related preferences) are collected. We also do not collect any information related to credentials (e.g. passwords) or use of any 3rd party services.
BtG service usage statistics are collected at statistical level (anonymized data), without storing any correlation with personal data of users.
Cookies in BtG web pages are used only to store display preferences (e.g. light/dark scheme) in a given device and this information is not collected or processed centrally.
Who We Share Your Data With
We may share your data with following third parties under the following circumstances or as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy:
- With Badge/Credentials verification platform provider: badgr.com - only for the purpose of issuing credentials (badges). If data is removed from BtG at user’s request, request for removal of related data is passed to badgr.com.
If there will be a need or option to share your data with other entities for the purpose of e.g. providing information of specific events or access to specific content, you will be asked for additional permission to share data.
Data retention
Bridging the Gap keeps your data for as long as it is required to provide services and meet legal obligations.
Note, that if BtG issued credentials (badge) with your data, this itself is a service and your data will be kept for as long as the credentials (badge) are active. You may request deletion credentials (badge) in the same way as updating or removing any other data.
Security
Bridging the Gap takes appropriate security measures to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction of your personal data that we collect and store. Unfortunately, however, no system can be 100% secured, so we cannot guarantee that BtG will always block unauthorized access by third parties.
Your Rights
You can choose not to provide certain data to us, but you may not be able to use certain features of the Services.
- To stop receiving promotional communications from us, you can opt out by using the unsubscribe mechanism available in the web page . Unsubscribing is equal to removal of the data from the BtG database.
- The browser or device you use may allow you to control cookies and other types of local data storage. To learn more about managing cookies, visit https://cookiepedia.co.uk/how-to-manage-cookies. As mentioned above, cookies are not used to collect any personal data.
You can access and update your personal data that BtG collects and maintains as follows:

- Delete your data: To remove your data please contact BtG via email: info@bridgingthegap.eu.com or use the unsubscribe form.
Our Policy Concerning Children
BtG provides educational materials related to IT software architecture, and does not collect any payments. We do believe there is no limit to the age as long as anyone is interested in software architecture, and we do not collect the age of the users.
Anyway, parents who believe that BtG may have collected personal data from a child under law age limits required for freely sharing their own personal data in a given country may submit a request that it be removed to BtG email: info@bridgingthegap.eu.com. Note, that due to the very limited set of data collected by BtG, in such a case Parent will have to prove that the email requested to be removed from the BtG database is used by the child for which they are parent or guardian. This procedure was put into place to prevent impersonation attacks on BtH users.
Modifications to This Privacy Policy
From time to time, we may update this Privacy Policy. If we make any material change to it, we will notify you via email, by update posted in the web page. Unless stated otherwise, modifications will become effective on the day they are posted.
As permitted by applicable law, if you continue to use BtG or any of its services after the effective date of any change, then your access and/or use will be deemed an acceptance of (and agreement to follow and be bound by) the revised Privacy Policy. The revised Privacy Policy supersedes all previous Privacy Policies.
